Holidays in Stockholm's Archipelago

During our 2006 holidays, we planned to spend a few days on the Utö island in the Stockholm archipelago. Renting bikes by Utömakarna is quite easy and the roads aren’t very steep so this is a perfect spot for the whole family.

We bought most of the food at the small harbour ICA excepted the fish although the local Rökeri offered a wide range of mouth-watering hot-smoked salmon (aka. Varmrökt lax) with garlic or herbs. I enjoyed them very much and so does Linda.

The shopkeeper told us that the same range was available at Krogen BåtsHaket på Ålö where we further had a very nice meal. But our mistake was to order varmrökt lax to take away at our table without looking how prepared the fish was...so be warned that it will be whole and un-skined !

On the other hand, the landscape was quite beautiful even if a little bit cloudy.

Haaaa, that Swedish pleasure of being in July, in a tent all alone on a sandy beach (quite rare in the archipelago), lightning a wood fire for the evening and being waken up by seagulls (and mosquitoes by the way)….
